Full Description

NMRS Report: (21/11/2005)
NN58NE 11 5651 8833

The remains of three structures, thought to be shielings, were recorded here during a detailed archaeological survey of Strathmashie Community Forest near Laggan, Highland. The survey was carried out to assess the evidence for past human use and to ascertain whether there was enough archaeology to develop a heritage trail in the forest. The first is a rectangular building, 9.3m x 6.2m, with banks now spread to 3m. To the SW is another building, with drystone walls 0.7m thick. it measures 7.7m x 4m and has a possible entrance on the W side. A smaller building, perhaps an open-ended structure, 5.3m x 4m. They all appear to be shielings with different periods of construction.
