ND15NE 83 1253 5563

This range includes a single-storey three-bay cottage with porch and chimneys in each gable and a byre. A stone bearing initials and the date of 1821 is visible in the gable over the porch entrance. Only the cottage retains its slate roof, the byre standing to wallhead height over roughly coursed flagstone walls. The site was visited in 2000.
Information from RCAHMS (ARG) 10 July 2006 <1>

A DBA and walkover survey was carried out by RPS Consultants in July 2006 in advance of a proposed wind farm development near Spittal, Caithness.

Site 4; A longhouse croft comprising a 30 m long range with a 8m long roofed cottage at eastern end. Cottage is c.8 m in length and consists of an asbestos slate roof (still intact) and Caithness slab construction. Symmetrical arrangement with room to either side of central porch with pitched roof and Masonic mark over doorway. Walls appeared to have been constructed of lath and plaster. A 3-room byre adjoined the cottage, which had a small pigsty later added at western end. Opposite this was a small ancillary building, 5m square, under an incomplete corrugated iron roof. Was possibly occupied up to 1947 (T. Pottinger, pers. comm.) <2>
