Full Description

NMRS Report: (21/09/2006 11:52:44)
ND16NW 391 10564 65474.

The buildings belonging to the farmstead at Whitefield are arranged around a central courtyard and are of roughly coursed flagstone with flagstone or corrugated iron roofs. They include stables and byres, and a threshing barn and cart shed with a granary above. The threshing machine was powered by an external horse-engine platform, indicated on the rear, W, wall of the barn on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876 and 1907, sheet xi). A crowstepped gable was noted in the E range, coincidental with a disjuncture in the line of the walls between two adjacent buildings.
