NJ01NW 32 NJ 03648 18508
This limekiln has been set into a S-facing slope at the edge of improved grass moorland 120m N of Allanbeg. The kiln measures about 8m in diameter over a wall reduced to a grass-grown bank up to 1.5m in external height on the E and W, and 0.5m on the N, where a short length of bank about 4m in length extends N from the kiln. The pot, which is about 1.5m deep, is now little more than a featureless hollow.
The kiln is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet LX; 1902, sheet LX); on the latter it is annotated `Old Limekiln'.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 24 August 2006.
