NJ02SE 31 NJ 05862 23286

The precursor to the 19th century farmsteading at Connage (NJ02SE 32) is situated immediately S of the roofed farmhouse and steading, and comprises three buildings and an enclosure, all reduced to grass-grown footings. What may be identified as a dwelling stands at the NE edge of the group and measures 12.5m from N to S by 5m transversely overall. There is a central doorway in the E side and an outshot is attached to the N end. Immediately SW of the dwelling is a smaller structure standing at the NE corner of a small garden or enclosure. The third building lies 50m SSW of the dwelling. Rectangular on plan, its SSW end has been set into the slope to a depth of about 0.5m.
The farmstead is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet XLVIA; 1902, sheet XLVIA).
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 7 September 2006.
