NJ02SW 47 NJ 00673 22151
This limekiln is situated in a pasture field 270m N of the ruins of Castle Roy (NJ02SW 1). The kiln, which has been set into the SW side of a low rise to a depth of at least 2m, has been reduced to little more than a hollow measuring about 4.7m in diameter, though the position of the rubble-filled draw-hole on the W is clearly visible. A grass-grown mound of small limestone boulders is situated immediately NE of the kiln-pot; it measures about 7m in diameter by 1m in height.
The kiln is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet XLVIA; 1902, sheet XLVIA); on the latter it is annotated `Old Limekiln'.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 22 August 2006.
