NJ02SW 65 NJ 02387 20365
This limekiln is situated at the foot of a steep, S-facing slope in woodland 370m S of Garlyne. It measures 5m from N to S by 4.7m transversely over walls reduced to grass- and bracken-grown banks. The pot, which measures about 2m in diameter, has been sunk to a depth of at least 1.3m into the slope, and the draw-hole, which is no longer visible, was on the S.
The kiln is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet XLVIA; 1902, sheet XLVIA); on the latter it is annotated `Old Limekiln'.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 5 September 2006.
