Full Description
NMRS Report: (21/03/2007 12:29:13)
NH92NE 54 NH 98919 26450
A rectangular enclosure shown on the current OS map 1:10000 (1972) at the bottom of an improved field below the E side of Balnuick Wood is the site of a sheep dip. The concrete dip remains in place, through now broken and filled with old fence posts and tin cans, and a stone-kerbed draining stance is visible at its upper end. An upright slab some 0.7m high is one of two stones which extend the kerb of the NW side of the draining stance to the NE; the slab has been drilled through, presumably for use as a gate-post. The herding arrangements round the dip were presumably mainly timber, accounting for the posts now in the concrete trough.
