Scrabster [name: ND 102 702]
Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].
Thurso, 6th Dec. The ELIZABETH BARCLAY (schr.), and the AID (sloop) both of this port, came into collision in the river, and each sustained some damage. The former vessel is on the beach, and may sustain more damage before she is got off.
Source: LL, No. 14,876, London, Monday, December 9 1861.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 10167).
A location at ND c. 122 688 may be suggested for this stranding. The River Thurso (Thurso River) enters the SE corner of Thurso Bay through a well-defined mouth.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 5 January 2007.
