Full Description
NMRS Report: (22/02/2007 11:06:30)
NJ02NW 149 NJ 01419 28603
This building, which overlooks the Caochan nan Gabhar to the NW and appears to contain two compartments, has been set end-on into a gentle NE-facing slope. Rectangular on plan, it measures 17m from NE to SW by 5m transversely over walls reduced to grass-grown stony banks 1.8m in thickness and up to 0.4m in height. No entrances are visible, but the SE side of the building has been extensively robbed and an uprooted tree obscures the SW end. An enclosure that adjoins the NW side of the building is visible as a stone-fringed platform.
The building is depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Elginshire 1874, sheet xxxii), which also depicts the enclosure; neither is shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1905, sheet xxxii NE).
