Cromarty, 7th Jan. During the night of the 5th Jan., it blew a heavy gale from WNW to NNW, and the only two vessels in the roads, the IONIAN (Amer. ship), Tovey, and the SNOWDROP (schr.), of Newcastle, Scarbro, both in ballast, were driven on the beach, but there is no visible damage to either as yet.

Cromarty, 9th Jan. The IONIAN (Amer. Ship), Tovey, which was driven ashore during a gale in the night of the 5th Jan., got off the beach this morning, and to all appearances has received no damage.
Source: LL, No. 15,837, London, Thursday, January 12 1865.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 10775).
Cromarty Roads cannot be identified from the available map evidence but the name presumably applies to an area in front of (to the NW of) Cromarty Harbour.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 13 February 2007.
