Full Description

This site was discovered by George Currie in 2007. It is described as "a boulder 2.3 x 1.0 x 0.7m" having "at least four cup marks". <1><2>

The site was not located during a field visit by John and Trina Wombell in 2010. <3>

This panel was recorded as part of the ScRAP (Scotland’s Rock Art project) by members of NoSAS but was not visited. <4>

This panel was recorded by members of NoSAS (Rock Art Group) in April 2024. This isolated CMR is located in a fenced area of grazing on a less steeply sloping step on the west side of Glen Elchaig at an altitude of around +30m AOD. It was identified by George Currie in 2007. Due to its size it is clearly visible at the location described and is also visible on satellite imagery. Access can be made via a gate off the public road to Camas Luinie opposite a group of croft buildings, thence WSW up the hill for around 110m. There are wide ranging views from the stone’s location over Glen Elchaig to the southeast.

The panel is an embedded oval shaped boulder of mica schist measuring around 2.1m NW-SE, 1.6m NE-SW and around 0.6m high at its highest point above the surrounding ground where 5 of the 13 shallow cups are located. The upper surface slopes down to ground level from NW-SE. The cups are typically between 50 and 70mm in diameter and 15-25mm deep, and arranged in three groups on the boulder’s upper surface, one of which with 6 cups may be arranged in a rosette pattern. <5>

NGR adjusted based on 2023 (12.5 cm) vertical aerial photographs. <6>
