(No classification specified: cargo cited as railway sleepers, and date as August 1847). Unknown: cargo washed ashore in the Pentland Firth. Vessel presumed wrecked on Seal [Sule] Skerry.

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially arbitrary, being derived from the reported location of discovery of wreckage. The date cited is apparently that of the reported discovery of wreckage, which may have derived from within either of the areas designated as Maritime - Western Isles or Maritime - Highland.
The available map evidence notes neither Seal Skerry nor Seal Skerries within the Pentland Firth. A stranding on Sule Skerry (to the W of the W entrance to the Firth) may be indicated.
It also remains uncertain whether the discovery of wreckage represents the loss of a vessel (whether by stranding or foundering), or the loss or jettison of timber carried as deck cargo.
