Full Description

This dyke is visible on aerial photographs and is marked on present maps but now lies within the forestry plantation. It was not visited during the walk-over survey. It would appear to have been associatecd with walling running down the east bank of the Allt Ghardail and the west bank of the stream to the east of this section of plantation. A good drystone dyke also runs along the roadside. This would have formed a large, but steep, enclosed area, presumably connected with sheep farming.
It was felt that a small section of this dyke will probably be destroyed during the construction of the pipeline from the Allt Ghardail intake to the main Abhainn na Coinnich pipeline. As this site was not visited during the walk-over survey it is impossible to accurately evaluate the damage to this feature. It is recommended that if archaeological recording of other features to be affected by this scheme is being carried out in the future, this feature be visited and photographed, before work commences. <1>
