Full Description

NM64NW 8022 c. 60 46
N56 33 W5 54
NLO: Fort William [name: NN 105 740]
Loch Linnhe [name centred NM 86 47].
(Classified as wooden lugger, in ballast: date of loss cited as 8 December 1912). Treasure: this vessel stranded near Salachan Point, Argyll.
Registration: Inverness. Built 1902. 53 tons unspecified.
(Location of loss cited as N55 40.00 W5 50.00).
I G Whittaker 1998.
The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Salachan Point is not noted as such on the 2000 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map but the name probably refers to the headland adjacent to Camas Shalachain [name: NM 612 466], on the N shore of the Sound of Mull.
This location falls within Morvern, which has traditionally been considered as part of Argyll, and fell within that county.
The unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker falls offshore, W of Gigha.
