RCAHMS Canmore description:
NC53NE 20 56956 36061
This granite milestone stands on the E verge of the A836 public road in moorland 1km N of Altnaharra. Roughly triangular in section, the stone has two flat, dressed, faces on the front and a rounded rear that is roughly hewn. The stone measures 0.41m in breadth by 0.3m in depth and 0.53m in height, and the upper part presents a steeply-sloping facet to the road. The stone bears no inscription, but the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherlandshire 1878, sheet LIII) notes that it marked the distance in miles to ‘TONGUE 17½’ and ‘ALTNAHARROW ½’.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 27 October 2009. <1>
