The abandoned settlement of Ruadh-mhol comprises four buildings and three enclosures. Two the buildings are situated at the head of the storm-beach. The larger measures 7.4m by 3.4m within a wall 1.2m thick and 1.5m high, and has opposed entrances in the sides; the smaller, which measures 4m by 2.4m internally, has an enclosure butted on to its ENE side. The remaining buildings and enclosures occupy a terrace overlooking the beach. One of the buildings has two compartments, the smaller of which (4m by 2.2m internally) has been butted on to the larger (9m by 3.3m internally) each compartment has a recess in the shared wall, which still stands up to 1.5m in height. The last building, which lies about 40m to the NNE, measures 7.7m by 3.5m within a wall 0.8m thick and 1.4m high and has a window in the NNE end.

Three unroofed buildings (at NG 3887 0363) are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, Islands of Rum, Sanday etc., 1879, sheet lxi) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975) although they are not at the same location.
