Full Description

(Name: NN 259 811) Achadh na Croise (NAT)
OS 6"map, (1971)
The name, meaning "Field of the Cross" applies to a small hillock, traditionally the spot where the local MacDonalds mustered.
Name Book 1870.
The name "Achadh na Croise" is centred on a level area of croftland above, and fronted by, an old river terrace on the E, S, and W. There is no hillock in the vicinity and if it was traditionally the mustering spot of the local MacDonalds, it is at such a place one would expect people to muster and not on a hillock.
Visited by OS (J M) 29 August 1974.
