Full Description
Cuilalunn Cottage is situated in the grounds of Cuilalunn House, which was built by George Cumming, a retired guard on the railway, in the late 1930s/early 1940s. The Cottage is built on railway sleeper foundations. It is rendered and painted in an ochre colour, with a corrugated tin roof. After George Cumming's death, the house was occupied by his daughter Rosie Cumming. During the summer she let out the house and moved into the Cottage at the rear.
Cuilalunn Cottage is one of a number of 'sleeper' buildings built from railway sleepers, or on railway sleeper foundations, in Boat of Garten and Badenoch and Strathspey. See Jackie Wilson's report for the ARCH Community Timeline course, 2011. <1>
