Full Description

A post-medieval house was recorded during a walkover survey by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2012 at Glen Bracadale, Bracadale, Skye, prior to a proposed woodland creation scheme. Part of the Glen Bracadale township.

The building consisted of a group of grass- and moss-covered turf / stone structures with a central sub-rectangular house measuring 9m NW-SE by 5m over walls spread to 1.5m and up to 1.2m high. The north-east cell measured 6m WNW-ESE by 4m over walls spread 1.5-2m and up to 1.2m high. The ESE cell measured 5.5m NE-SW by 4.5m over walls spread 1.5m and up 1.2m high with a 0.8m-wide entrance in the south-east wall. The south-west cell was very degraded but measured approximately 4.5m WNW-ESE by 2.5m over walls spread 1.5m and up to 1.2m high. <1>
