Full Description
The primary building materials of this structure were stone and mortar, and it was presumably originally thatched, but by the C20 a roof of corrugated iron was put in place.
In May 2011, S Morton carried out a photographic record as part of a requirement on a planning application. Submitted with this record was a report on the blackhouse's history, along with the adjacent stone storehouse (MHG56570) and crofthouse. The blackhouse was built sometime in the late C19 for the McKinnon family, and was inhabited by them until they moved into the nearby crofthouse (constructed in 1932). After this, the blackhouse was used solely as an animal byre. <1>
