The early C20 General Post Office at 59/60 High Street, Invergordon.

The building was investigated in 2015 as part of the ARCH project 'Invergordon in World War I'. On the 2nd edition OS map, the Post Office is located at the junction of High Street and Castle Road, but by WWI it had moved to 59/61 High Street. A wartime plan in private possession shows that it was taken over by the Admiralty during WWI. It is currently (2016) the postal sorting office. Invergordon Museum has two photos which appear to be from the early 1900s, one showing the sorting office and one the telegraph office. They may well be taken in this building, though it is possible they were from the from the previous post office at the corner of High Street - Castle Road. The photos are also on the Invergordon Archive where the contribution for no. 264 provides information about the telegraph equipment. <1>
