Full Description
A corn mill and adjacent saw mill are shown on the OS 1st Edition map at Farr, Strathnairn. By the 2nd Edition the saw mill had gone and the corn mill had apparently been converted into two cottages. A mill pond is also shown innmediately to the south though this had also gone by the 2nd Edition.
The former corn mill has apparently continued in residential use and shows no sign of its original function.
The site was visited by C Dagg in 2002 during a walkover survey in two areas of woodland plantation. It was noted (erroneously - IS-L 03/06/2016) that two cottages had been built on the site of the sawmill, while the mill itself had been removed entirely, leaving slight grassy footings north of the fence. It was also noted that there was little visible on the site of the millpond except a depression in the garden of New Cottage (the site of smithy). <1>
It is quite clear that the existing, and now one, cottage is the same building as that shown on the OS 1st Edition map. Two further buildings and an enclosure are shown to the west of the mills and this may have been the miller's house and associated structures/building.
