Full Description

A hut circle at Cille Mhaire Glen, Strathaird, Skye.

154893 818174 Cille Mhaire Glen 15 AMC904: The structure was visited by A Welti and A MacInnes in 2009 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. This circular stone structure is not recorded by JMT survey 1998. It may be part of the group AMC902 (see MHG28972) and 903 (see MHG28973) which also have W facing entrances, or it may link with the Druim Fhurainn group (AMC909 to 912 - see MHG29079, MHG29081, MHG29082 and MHG57242). The structure is sited on a natural terrace, cut into the steep lower SW slope of Nead an Fhir-eoin. No stones are visible but the circular turf covered bank is clear. Walling is 1.5m thick with maximum height 0.4m. Average internal diameter is 5m, external diameter 7.5m. The structure may be slightly oval in shape. The entrance faces west. The structure may be associated with AMC902, at a distance of 350m, also with AMC903 at a similar elevation, and distance, and also with AW703, 704 and 705 (see MHG) (700m distant) on the W bank of Abheinn Cille Mhaire. <1> <2>
