189176 882973 Coille Eagasgarg 5 MB005: The hut circle was visited by J Buchanan in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This circular stone structure is on a gentle SE facing slope, situated under a knoll. Average inner diameter is 6.1m, outer diameter is 8.55m. The double skinned wall is 1m thick with maximum height 0.7m. The possible entrance faces NE. No entrance measurements were possible. The area is deer fenced and planted with trees. Vegetation (moss, bracken, grass) is high & obscures much of the structure. The structure seems to be part of a group of 7: MB001 (see MHG49734); MB002 (see MHG49735); MB003 (see MHG7749); MB004 (see MHG57301); MB005; MB006 (see MHG57303) and MB007 (see MHG57304). MB003, MB004 and MB005 are recorded as a group by OS 1965. MB005 is 100m from MB004, 150m from MB003 and 300m from MB007. <1> <2>

[Note: a database was set up as part of research for the dissertation and was subsequently expanded as an extension of the We Digs Project (see website link below). The full access database can be made available to enquirers/researchers if requested - contact HER for details].

Note: NGR adjusted to position as seen on 2009 vertical APs [IS-L 28/06/2017].
