Full Description

A hut circle at Meall na Dubh near Gairloch.

179857 878336 Meall na Dubh 4 HAB012: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This circular stone structure is only just identifiable; the area is covered with turf and few stones are left. No platform is visible. It sits on a gentle west facing slope, immediately beside a stream, 300m from a river and 1000m from the sea. An enclosure wall of large boulders, probably contemporary, runs from E to NW and passes 3m to N of the HC (see sketch and photographs). Approximate inner diameter measurement is 9m. No other measurements were possible. HAB012 may be associated with HAB009 (see MHG57306) distant 250m, HAB010 (see MHG57307) distant 250m and HAB011 (see MHG57308) distant 400m. <1> <2>
