Inverchoran (Am Fuar-Alltan)

Shielings (1119 – 1121) – centred on NH 26800 48818 1.5 kms to the SSW of Inverchoran farmhouse at an altitude of 400m. These shielings are situated on a “spur” between 2 streams and were recorded by NOSAS in 2007 as part of the Scotland's Rural Past Project. The ground here is heathery and north facing. The remains of the three structures exist as low turf banks covered with heather.

1120 Shieling - NH 26804 48820 - The middle of the three is circular, with external diameter 4.5m and with turf walls to a height of 0.2 - 0.3m and generally 1m spread. A possible entrance is seen in the east and a boggy central area supports a growth of reeds. <1>
