(NG 394 679) Greaulin: shown as a township in 1662 (J Blaeu 1662) and 1824 (W John's Map of Skye, 1824) but totally deserted before 1875 (OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye, 1st ed.)
Visited by OS (A C) 19 December 1960; J Blaeu 1662.
The depopulated township of Greaulin occupies the lower slopes of a steep hillside. It comprises some 25 ruined houses and enclosures. The individual crofts are marked out with walls and there seem to have been roads leading into them from the uphill side. Probably an improvements township.
Visited by OS (C F W) 28 April 1961.
A crofting township comprising one roofed and thirty unroofed buildings, and their associated enclosures and field walls is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Skye 1880, sheet vi). A field-system is also depicted to the SE of the township. Thirty-two unroofed buildings, their associated enclosures and field walls and the field-system are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968).
