Full Description

A hut circle at Ormiscaig.

185798 891523 Ormiscaig 1 JAN001: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2013 as part of research on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. The HC is submerged by bracken and sits on a steep S facing slope with panoramic views. It is probably oval, although this shape may be due to slumping downslope. It is associated with JAN002 (200m distant - see MHG), JAN003 (300m distant - see MHG) and JAN004 (300m distant - see MHG). A large boulder has tumbled into the centre of the HC. Nearby burial cairns are possible (see JAN002) Average internal diameter is 7m, external diam is 9m. The double skinned wall is 1m thick and max height is 0.75m. The S facing entrance is 1.2m wide externally, 1.4 m wide internally, and the entrance passage is 1.5m in length. <1> <2>
