Full Description

A hut circle at Ormiscaig.

185952 891437 Ormiscaig 2 JAN002: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2013 as part of research on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This circular HC sits on a level platform dug into and out from a gentle S facing slope with panoramic views. It is associated with JAN001 (200m distant - see MHG57922), JAN003 (200m distant - see MHG) and JAN004 (200m distant - see MHG). Many stones are visible, but no entrance is discernable. There are around 10 small (1m diam) cairns within 15 m of the structure. These may be clearance cairns, or possibly burial cairns. To NW of the HC, and adjoining it, is an arc shaped bank, (see sketch) possibly indicating an earlier HC structure. Inside the structure is a ruined sheiling hut. Average internal diameter is 6.2m, external diam is 8.75m. The double skinned wall is 1.2m thick and max height is 0.6m.. <1> <2>
