Full Description
An area of stone, probably field clearance, but possibly overlying evidence of a stone dyke. It measures approximately 14m x 5m. It was identified in a walkover survey at Tighchuig, Strathglass, undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2010 in advance of a proposed log cabin development and associated hydro-electric scheme. <1>
In a subsequent watching brief by Highland Archaeology Services in 2011, although flagged, this clearance cairn was accidentally but extensively damaged by topsoil stripping for the reception area. The cairn consists mainly of stones up to 0.4m, but larger (up to 1.4m) stones were noted in the centre, with smaller stones above and below. Although no distinct layers were discernible it is possible this indicates several phases of stone clearance. The stripping did not remove all stones, so part of this feature survives below. <2>
