Full Description

A large hut circle at Laide Wood, to the southwest of Laide.

188951 890686 Laide Wood 2 JMC002: The hut circle was visited by J Macintyre and others in 2012 as part of research on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This large circular HC sits on a gentle SE facing grassy slope. Views are panoramic to both land and sea. It is much degraded and robbed of stone but the bank is clearly visible, submerged in turf and moss, with some facing stones showing. Average internal diameter is 14.6m, external diameter is 17.85m, double skinned wall is 1.9m wide and max height is 0.45m. The possible entrance is 1m wide both internally and externally. The structure is similar in size to hut circle AH005 at Torr na-h-Ulaidhe near Achtercairn (see MHG7253). This HC may be associated with JMC001 (300m distant - see MHG58069), JMC003 (220m distant - see MHG58071), JMC004, (100m distant - see MHG58072) JMC005 (40m distant - see MHG58073), JMC006 (400m distant - see MHG58074). <1> <2>
