Full Description

A hut circle at Laide Wood, to the southwest of Laide.

188906 890584 Laide Wood 3 JMC003: The hut circle was visited by J Macintyre and others in 2012 as part of research on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This HC is dug into and built out from a gentle grassy slope with E aspect. It is fairly degraded but the banking is clearly visible. Some facing stones are visible. The interior is bowl shaped. The structure is submerged in turf and other vegetation. Average interior diameter is 9.6m, exterior diameter is 12.5m, double skinned wall width is 1.6m, max height is 0.35m. There is a definite entrance to E, width externally 1.2m, internally 1.5m and the entrance length is 1.8m. Entrance terminals are standard. This HC may be associated with JMC001 (300m distant - see MHG58069), JMC002 (220m distant - see MHG58070), JMC004, (200m distant - see MHG58072) JMC005 (300m distant - see MHG58073) and JMC006 (400m distant - see MHG58074). <1> <2>
