Full Description

An earthwork enclosure at Wester Fearn.

In 2014 ARCH provided a number of courses, field trips and other activities exploring and researching the remains of the 19th century engineer, road and church builder Thomas Telford. A project was undertaken in Kyle of Sutherland, during which many sites, not all related to Telford, were visited and photographed by participants. Gregor Laing discovered the foundations of a large round enclosure, with an entrance facing east, when clearing vegetation near the sheep fank (see MHG39064). It can be seen on aerial photos. <1>

GIS spatial data based on location as seen on 2009 vertical APs. <2>

At c.19m across it may be an earlier sheep fank, although it could be a large prehistoric hut circle. [IS-L 20/07/2018]
