Full Description

A boathouse on the Dornoch Firth, belonging to Fearn Lodge.

In 2014 ARCH provided a number of courses, field trips and other activities exploring and researching the remains of the 19th century engineer, road and church builder Thomas Telford. A project was undertaken in Kyle of Sutherland, during which many sites, not all related to Telford, were visited and photographed by participants. Three boathouses of Fearn Lodge are depicted on the 2nd edition OS map. The easternmost boathouse, situated next to a jetty, is still there (2014). Rails used to extend from the boathouse into the firth. Punts were launched from here for shooting ducks in the firth. <1>
