Full Description
Possible stone footings for a turf walled structure were recorded during an NTS pre-afforestation survey of Kintail and West Affric in 1997. This was located some 200m S of Loch a' Bhealaich on the S side of the Alltan Nighean Alasdair. It measured c.5m by c.3m and was aligned WNW/ESE. A tiny stone walled feature, internally c.0.5m wide at the S and widening to c.1m wide at the N, with walls c.0.6m wide and c.0.2m high, was sited nearby to the W. About 7m to the E was a mound measuring c.5m by c.4m and aligned c.N/S. There were other similar mounds in the vicinity but they were too overgrown to be confirmed.
This was perhaps a small group of shielings. The feature to the west might have been used as a still site. <1>
