Full Description

A hut circle near Bord Buie, Strath Beag, Little Lochbroom.

The hut circle was recorded by S MacKenzie in 2013. It lies on a fairly level grassy area about 30m above sea level, circa 200m ENE up the slope away from the sideschool building next to the burial ground, and with a burn 50m to the East. A stone and turf dyke running East-West, marked on the OS map, lies 13m to the North of the circle. It is a sandstone, twin-walled circle with an opening facing ESE. N-S: external diameter 13m, internal 9m. E-W: ext. dia. 13.5m including entrance "horns"; internal diameter 8.5m. Twin walls are rubble-filled. They are clearest on the N and W sides of the circle and measure 1.7 - 2m across. The inner faces are only one stone high. The largest stone (0.8 x 1.1m) is on the N side of the entrance. Entrance: on the ESE with "horns". Width of entrance 1.5m obscured by tumble. Exterior: No ditch. Two other structures: on N side of entrance there seems to be a wall base 1.4m wide and 2.5m long. It is not visibly tied in to the circle wall. On the S outer side of the circle is a rectangular outline of stones 3 x 3m. <1>
