Full Description
Large rock on the North West side of the road over Ashie Moor.
The rock is approximately 1500 MM x 2500 MM and about 1200 MM high (about 1800 MM at the furthest side from the road because of a hollow there). The rock is shown on the 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps. It is mentioned in the booklet South Loch Ness, published by the local heritage group. Nothing appears to be known about the origin of the name Merchant's Stone.
