Full Description

An unusual, notably short pin (L 68mm) with the head split to form two out-turned coils was found during metal detecting and claimed as Treasure Trove (TT 18/17). It has been suggested it may be early medieval, but the out-turning of the coil is atypical and it is likely to be more recent. <1>

Information from the Treasure Trove database describes a Cu alloy sheet rolled into point, ends folded over to create two loops at head. Seam running from head to point. 68mm x 4.4mm (15.5mm head width). Possible pin. <2>

The pin is on display at Nairn Museum. <3>

Four figure grid reference given is marginal. A full GR for the pin is held by Treasure Trove. GW 23/07/20
