Full Description

On top of a glacial mound on the northern edge of the Ledbeg cornland is a foundation aligned N - S a fragmentary semi-circular ended foundation 11.2m x 2.2m internally with 0.8m thick walls and at its southern end a 2m round hollow which may have ruined walling. Aligned E - W at right angles to the first structures a byrehouse foundation 9.1m x 2.5m internally. A partition divides the 5m long byre (downslope to the W and with signs of the drain), from the smaller domestic area to the E. T walls of both structures are approx 0.8m thick but with no clear signs of entrances. Possible dyke fragments may have deliniated a small courtyard. Homes map of Ledbeg Farm shows several clusters of buildings on the cornlands and these structures may be remains of the most northerly cluster shown. <1>
