Full Description
A building and the remains of two enclosures at Achnacly, Broubster.
An unroofed building was identified in LiDAR data gathered by AOC Archaeology in 2011 as part of the mitigation for the visual impact on the archaeological landscape associated with the proposed Baillie Hill windfarm, Caithness. An unroofed building oriented NE/SW, 23m in length with four visible compartments. <1>
On the OS 1st Edition 6" map the building is within an enclosure, with a smaller square enclosure to the south. There are possible slight indications in the LiDAR data that the larger of the two enclosures may originally have been larger still. The building, potentially a small farmstead, is probably associated with the corn drying kiln to the southeast (see MHG29219).
