Full Description
Remains of a building to the southeast of Achalone, Caithness.
A building was identified in LiDAR data gathered by AOC Archaeology in 2011 as part of the mitigation for the visual impact on the archaeological landscape associated with the proposed Baillie Hill windfarm, Caithness. Small, rectangular structure 16m in length, with two visible compartments. <1>
The building is shown on the OS 1st 6" map with a well to the north and an enclosure immediately adjacent to the south. It is not named but given its proximity to Achalone and its location on the Loans of Achalone it may have been an associated building. In the LiDAR data there are also small areas of rig and furrow immediately to the east and to the southeast [IS-L 30/06/2020].
