Full Description
Roofless building shown. From the position of the name, it would appear to be associated with the farmstead of Badleathen (ND24NW 16).
OS 6" map, Caithness, 1st ed. (1877), sheet xxviii.
This rectangular building, aligned W-E measures 10m by 4.85m, including the width of the walls, which are 0.55m thick. W gable still stands c1.35m high, though rest of building only stands to c0.4m. The entrance is off-centre in the S wall, measuring c0.8m wide. There are slight traces of an internal division c0.1m high and spread to 0.7m, 5.3m from the E gable.
This building does not appear to have any associated structures around it, except for an enclosure to N and W. This is defined by a grass-covered wall spread to 1.3m and 0.45m high, which encloses an area 35m by 20m maximum. Traces of grass-covered walls extend E and SE, and there are the probable remains of peat banks 75m to the NNE and 40m E-wards.
NMRS MS/645, p.10.
A single unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxviii) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1975).
