Full Description
In June 2015, a walkover survey was undertaken by Anne Coombs at Raemore Wood near Lairg on behalf of the Forestry Commission Scotland to identify and demarcate archaeological sites in advance of the clear felling of a conifer plantation.
Site 10: A hut circle c.10m across internally with walls c.1.5m wide and c.0.5m high. There is lots of visible stone in the walls and the entrance appears to be SE facing. The next hut circle (see MHG62352) lies immediately to the SE of this hut circle giving the appearance of a double hut circle but there does seem to be a gap of c.4-5m between the walls. The site was marked by high tree stumps c.5m from the edge of the site. <1>
NGR adjusted based on 2016 aerial photographs. <2>
Note; Location of second hut circle is described above as immediately southeast of this hut circle but NGR provided places it immediately northwest T.Blackie 30/8/2021
