Full Description
A possible hut circle or ring cairn at Achvraid.
The possible damaged remains of a hut circle were recordrd by Highland Archaeology Services in 2020 during a walkover survey in advance of a proposed new cable between Knocknagael sub-station and Clune Wood near Loch Ashie, south of Inverness. The feature lay just to the south of a tree shelter belt and had been cut by track on its north side and a ditch on the south side. It consisted of a curving bank with a turf covered stony mound in the centre. The outer bank was around 0.5m high and 1m wide. The central mound was around 0.7m high. It was 15m across and thus fitted with the others in the area in terms of size. However it also had a slightly mounded centre. Although this was tentatively interpreted as a hut circle it was considered possible that it may be a damaged cairn. <1>
