Full Description

This panel was recorded as part of the ScRAP (Scotland’s Rock Art project) by members of NoSAS in August 2018. This panel lies in an area of rough grazing on a southeast facing slope, 800m uphill from from the River Sgitheach. From the site you can see the Cromarty Firth and the north and south, Sutors to the east and Cioch Mhor to the northwest. It lies equidistant (50m) from two water channels which run north to south. A fence line runs in an west to east direction approximately 150m upslope. It is situated 50m south of the cupmarked rock Balnacrae Upper, and 600m upslope from Strath Sgitheach farmstead where there is another cup marked rock at NH 53199 63812 (Canmore ID 12948, ScRAP ID 2115).

This panel is roughly rectangular with a rounded east edge and a flat upper surface. It measures 1.6 x0.9m and rises to a height of 0.5m above ground level. The upper surface is mainly smooth with a fissure at its east edge and a weathered channel on the west edge. It has 22 cup marks spaced in an even spread across the surface, avoiding the fissure where the rock begins to slope downwards. <1>
