Full Description

A possible shepherd's cottage above the Allt Doire nan Gillean.

A made pony path on the Broulin/Braulen Estate, Glenstrathfarrar Forest (SP9.39A in the Stalkerpath project inventory), is marked on the OS First Edition, with a building hard beside it at this point. The path, which is used by ATVs although not recut for them, now appears to pass through the ruins, as if it had been adopted as a shelter. Well-constructed corner angles survive on the inside. Rectilinear dimensions of c.6x4m suggest a shepherd's cottage or early sporting estate deer watcher. The topography on a little knoll behind a sheltering outcrop does not lend itself to the track formerly passing hard outside the building as per OS, although BingMaps imagery could suggest a former route below the knoll. <1>

Roy Military Survey maps shows a shieling in this general area which is otherwise unlocated (see MHG14662), could this building be associated? [IS-L 30/07/2024]
