Full Description

A bloodstone lithic scatter found at Guirdal Bay, Rùm.

Guirdal Bay Sites 1& 2: The site was found by S Birch in the raised beach immediately behind the bothy at Guirdil, at 15-18 metres OD. A series of animal rubs/natural breakdowns at the front edge of the raised beach produced a total of 10 lithics of bloodstone. These were eroding out of the erosions with a north-westerly aspect. Other erosional features nearby failed to reveal any material of anthropogenic origin. The material comprises mainly of flakes and one platform core. <1>

NOTE: The NGR given for Site 1 would place the site some distance away from the leading edge of the raised beach and may, therefore, be inaccurate [IS-L 02/09/2024].
