Full Description
A corn mill is shown on the OS 2nd Edition map at 'Newmill' to the south of Auldearn. The building is also shown on the OS 1st edition map but is not labelled. The name 'Newmill' would imply that there was previously an 'Oldmill' somewhere or it was constructed in addition to one elsewhere, the nearest downstream being at Auldearn itself (see MHG23585). At Newmill, a mill pond is shown to the immediate south on the opposite side of the road with a second mill pond downstream from Newmill to the northwest. <1> <2>
The roofless ruin of the mill building still stands and the sites of the two mill ponds are now occupied by houses [IS-L 06/09/2024].
