Full Description
An archaeological survey by Dagg. C was undertaken in 2003 in advance of water mains renewal.
The following features were noted on the 1st edition OS map: The Bogg: Farmstead or croft house at NH 7210 7445. One roofed rectangular building end on to the road. Southeast of this is a small square enclosure or garden. The grassy stone footings of two buildings, the smaller nearest to the road measuring 5m by 3.5m; the larger 8m by 3.5m with a section of surrounding walling. The gap between the fence and the edge of the first building is only 3m. The area of the former enclosure on the other side of the farm track now has no enclosing dyke although the edge is defined by rushes. (Photos 1 and 2). These footings will require identifying and marking before work commences, to ensure that they are not accidentally damaged. Excavated material should not he placed on the footings, as this is likely to cause damage during backfilling. <1>
